IN the four years it has been open, the centre for the treatment of digestive cancer in Son Llatzer hospital in Palma has treated a total of 633 cases, of which 55.9 percent were cancer of the colon and rectum. The director of the centre, Jose Maria Campuzano, yesterday gave a resume of the activity of this centre during a press conference. She was accompanied by the head of the Digestion Unit, Carles Dolz, and the head of the Surgery Unit, Josep Noguera. The specific departments are divided by specialities: cancer of the colon and rectum; cancer of the liver, gallbladder and pancreas; and cancer of the throat and stomach. All three are multidiscipline, with Pathology, Surgery, Cancer Specialist and X-ray services and treat each case individually through meetings to agree on the appropriate primary treatment in each case, and the appropriate aftercare.
