PALMA
A record 120'016 people are looking for jobs in the Balearics despite hopes of some signs of green shoots as the Easter holidays and the start of the summer tourist nears.

According to the latest figures from the SOIB employment offices, the recession and swath of job cuts in the Balearics over the past year has pushed the total number of people searching for work up by 45 percent in comparison with the end of March last year.

It appears that men have been worst hit by the sharp rise in unemployment and 65 percent of those looking for work are male.
According to the employment offices, the profile of an average person looking for work is a 25-year-old Spanish male while those aged over 45 are the ones who are finding securing a new job the most difficult.
