PALMA
ALL parties on Palma City Council yesterday voted in favour of a motion tabled by the opposition Partido Popular that local and central government should pay for the proposed Palma tram link to the airport and Arenal.

However, while work on the new transport project is not expected to begin until 2011, the city council has a series of obstacles to steer round first. There is widespread opposition to the proposed route along the Avenidas because of the traffic chaos it will cause and in El Molinar, residents want the council to resolve the coastal suburb's many problems before routing the tram through it. At yesterday's council meeting, a number of local resident associations made their objections and concerns known and the council has made it clear that it wants input from all those who may be affected by the tram link.
