PALMA
ARTA Council has decided that once the former Wimbledon tennis champion Boric Becker pays the fine for illegal building work carried out at his country estate in the municipality, the money will be invested in improving local amenities such as providing more parking.

Boris Becker was fined 214'000 euros by the Council of Majorca for having apparently built a swimming pool, tennis court and porch without the necessary planning permission.

At the start of last month, the Balearic Appeal Court upheld the penalty but reduced the fine to a figure which has yet to be set.
However, whatever the final sum, the Mayor of Arta, Rafel Gil, said yesterday that the money will be used to improve local facilities and services - primarily municipal parking.
