Joan Collins THE roads into and out of Palma will be top priority for the Council of Majorca in their negotiations with the national Ministry of Public Works which began yesterday in Madrid. Of the 21 projects which the Council are presenting, nine are for the roads into and out of Palma. The Council hopes to get 285 million in total from central Government to execute the work. The widening of the stretch of the second ring road which has already been constructed is one of the main projects being put forward by the Council. This widening will start at Alcampo and continue to the airport motorway. The budget for this will be 71 million euros. As for the new stretch, it will run from Alcampo to the Valldemossa road. However part of the route, where it will pass Son Sardina, will have two lanes less. This work will cost 33.8 million euros in addition to 7.7 million in compulsory purchase compensation. Another important project will be the widening of the Via Cintura with another lane between the Valldemossa road and the Genova tunnel. This work will cost 14.6 million euros. Included in the projects presented by the Council of Majorca are two new roads accessing Palma from the airport motorway. These are proposed as a new connection from the Llevant motorway to Es Molinar and another to Coll d'en Rebassa. This work will cost 12 million euros. The access road at the Son Castello industrial estate is another of the weak points in Palma's road network and the Council wants to create a two level access road between the entrance to this industrial site and the Soller road. This work will cost 7 million euros. However, the access to this industrial site from the Inca road will not be altered. The Council thinks that, with the other access improved, there will be no need.
