THE Fonts Ufanes spring has surfaced for the second time this year as a result of the heavy rain over the past few days.
The spring, declared a natural monument, can be visited between 10am and 5pm at the Gabelli Petit estate in Campanet, purchased by the ministry of the environment last June with the aid of European Union funding.

The rain also converted the island's torrents or water courses into raging torrents.
The storm led to the cancellation of various ferries between the islands, and the Ramon Llull, which links the port of Alcudia with Ciudadela in Minorca had to be rerouted to Mahon.

However, none of the ports had to be closed to traffic.
The rain was heaviest in Lluc, where 102.7 litres per square metre was recorded on Wednesday. Rainfall at Palma-Porto Pi was 22 litres, 25.6 litres in the port of Pollensa, 22 in Alfabia, 31.2 litres in Porreras and 22.8 in Portocolom.

There was less rain in Minorca, where 12.4 litres per square metre was recorded at the airport, and 11.5 litres at Ibiza airport.
The bad weather is expected to continue with a cold front which will enter from the north today, but the long range forecast indicates improvements from Maundy Thursday.

Storms and light to moderate rain can be expected in the Balearics this weekend and will continue until at least Wednesday, when an anticyclone is expected to lead to improvements.

However, the long-range forecast indicates that the risk of showers will continue.
