AN 84-year-old woman was killed yesterday in a traffic accident on the road between Inca and Sineu at its junction with Costitx, Emergency services reported.

Police sources confirmed that Jacqueline C. was driving a Peugeot 206 at around 12.30pm accompanied by another woman aged 76. She drove out of the Costitx turning and was hit by a coach travelling on the Inca to Sineu road.

Initial investigations carried out by the Guardia Civil suggest that the driver of the Peugeot did not respect a “give way” sign.

The 84-year-old had to be freed by firemen from the wreckage of the vehicle but paramedics were unable to save her life. The 76-year-old passenger suffered various injuries and was taken to Inca hospital, whilst the coach driver remained unhurt.

The accident was the second fatality on the Inca to Sineu road in a week. On Monday a German cyclist was killed after falling and being run over by a lorry, a short distance away from yesterday's tragedy.
