A 31 year old driver died early on Sunday morning on the Sineu road after his car was involved in a collision with a van coming in the opposite direction.

The driver of the van, in which three young people were travelling, was allegedly drunk.
The Palma Fire Brigade was informed of the accident in Els Hostalots at 6.52am. A total of 14 firemen attended the scene because of the gravity of the crash.

The two drivers were trapped in the wreckage of their respective vehicles, while the two other occupants of the Ford Transit van were able to get out of the vehicle.

The main activity was concentrated on the Citroen Xsara, where the driver, its only occupant, was motionless.
The 112 emergency service sent a psychologist to the scene to attend to the family of the dead man, who were arriving there. It took the firemen one and a half hours to remove the body from the wreckage.

The driver of the van survived the impact, and an ambulance took him to Son Llatzer hospital in a serious condition.
The Guardia Civil later confirmed that he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
The three occupants of the van are believed to be between 19 and 21 years old, and the Guardia Civil are investigating whether they were returning from a party when the accident occurred.
