THE parents, pupils and teachers of Santa Maria school demonstrated on Sunday to demand that the procedures for the approval of the new school be speeded up.

The reason for this is that the current school is overcrowded.
There is hardly room to eat in its extremely crowded dining room, shared by 150 pupils. It is situated in an old classroom where there is no room for more tables. Part of the patio has been used for the youngest children, but even this is not sufficient.

The toilets, two on each floor, are the same ones the school has had since it had just 100 pupils, and now it has 300. The 32 teachers meet as best they can in a classroom they call “the hiding place”, which is around six square metres.

There is a need for an information technology classroom and a library but there is no space.
