A group of students from Glasgow University are in Majorca investigating the effects of a large expat and immigrant population on the island's natives.

The five third-year geography students are in Majorca until early next week and they have already visited the University of the Balearics and the daily Bulletin offices to gain information for their projects.

They will also travel to Magalluf and Palmanova to quiz expats about their Mediterranean lifestyle and head to Sa Pobla to talk to native Majorcans. One of the students, Lindsay Smith, said they were all surprised at the various reactions to locals and expats towards each other. “It is very interesting to hear the views about one group towards another. It appears that Majorca is a melting pot of different cultures that exist well besides each other.” They are based at the Hotel Linda in C'an Pastilla and also plan to visit Calvia town hall to talk to officials in the Foreign Citizens' department before their return to the UK.
