PALMA
THE fury over the increases in car hire prices this year continues with fresh reports yesterday warning that, after the Easter hikes, prices are going to be no cheaper over Whitsun.

The Whitsun weekend is a perfect occasion to go on a short holiday trip by hire car.
But anyone who's planning such a trip must keep in mind the importance of making the reservation for the vehicle as soon as possible.
Since nobody wants to pay peak prices, read the advice carhiremarket.com is giving.
Reasons for the big price increase can be found very easily.
Because the Whitsun weekend is such a popular time, car rental companies will run short of vehicles very soon.
Therefore, an early booking is the only way to avoid those peak prices that are evolving from the huge demand - but relatively small offer - for hire cars over the Whitsun holidays.

OUR READERS
Popular destinations like the Balearics, as many of our readers have made clear in their letters to the newspaper, are already suffering from a car hire shortage.

Particularly, the small car rental categories are only available for a very high price over the Whitsun weekend. “On the island of Majorca, small cars belonging to the Mini-category are almost booked out. And if such a car is still available, you might even pay more for it than for a hired car in the Economy class, which belongs to a higher category,” Anna-Kristina Stein, product manager of carhiremarket.com, said in the report released yesterday. “Just to give an impression: if you want to rent a car for the whole of the Whitsun week on Majorca, you will be paying at the moment about £120 for a hired car in the Economy class and even as much as £136 for a car rental in the Mini-category.
