THE national Government has opened the door for the tranference of the management of small airports, whose activities have nothing or very little to do with the network of Spanish airports, to the autonomous regions, according to an announcement from the national Minister of Public Works, Magdalena Alvarez, yesterday. We are studying whether all Spanish airports have to be managed by the network or not, she said. The Minister pointed out that there are some airports which up to now have been under the management of AENA (the Spanish Airports Authority) and which, because of the absence of any commercial activity, could be managed by the autonomous regions without affecting the national airport network. She confirmed that she had sent a proposal to the Catalonia Government for the ceding of the management of Sabadell airport because it makes no sense to have it operating in the airports network.
