THE shipping company Balearia is to put two high capacity, high speed ferries on the Barcelona to Palma and the Valencia to Palma routes.
This will happen during the next few months, according to company sources. The first of the new Balearia ferries, constructed in the Visentini shipyard in Italy, will be delivered at the end of May, and the second in October.

The same sources said that their characteristics mean that “not only will they be the ferries with the greatest capacity operating in the Mediterranean, but also they will be the fastest”, as they can sail at 24 knots.

They can take 2'255 lineal metres of cargo and 196 cars, and can accommodate 800 passengers in 120 quadruple cabins, in addition to having cabins adapted for people with reduced mobility.

These ships have a length of 186.46 metres and a width of 26 metres and have two main engines of 10'800 kilowatts.
The incorporation of these two new ships into Balearia's fleet is in the company's fleet plan, as is the construction and incorporation of another six ships, an investment of around 300 million euros.

Balearia's fleet plan gives priority to making the ships of adequate capacity and with optimum consumption of fuel, “in keeping with the company's commitment to the environment and the fight against climate change”, said the sources.
