PALMA FIRE PROBE

PALMA police yesterday opened an investigation into a suspected arson attack on the old Palma-Palma night club under one of the landmark Es Jonquet windmills. The alarm was raised at 11.20 and various teams of fire fighters were sent to the scene amidst fears that the blaze might spread quickly to neighbouring buildings and properties, including the other adjacent abandoned windmills. Fortunately the fire, which appears to have started in the basement of the nightclub was contained and extinguished rapidly by Palma fire fighters.
Fire chiefs reported yesterday afternoon that the blaze caused widespread damage to furnishings but fortunately, as the club was closed at the time of the incident, no one was injured.
