A 30-year-old Romanian died from his injuries yesterday in Son Dureta hospital after having fallen headfirst from the first floor of a building site in Palma last Wednesday.
Marcel Modest Pavalen had been working on a balcony without railings at a works site in Calle Arc de Sant Marti. Safety netting had been placed at the edge of the balcony but when Pavalen - a heavyset man - leant on it, the netting gave way under his weight.
Emergency services who rushed to the scene managed to stabilise the unconscious victim but the injuries he had received, particularly to the head had been grave.
His death in the intensive care unit of Son Dureta hospital yesterday came as a profound shock for his waiting family.
