THIS Friday evening, Leadership in Time, which brought Deepak Chopra to Palma last year, is hosting a two hour seminar in English on “Mindfulness Meditation”.

Leadership in Times's Liss Plambech Nordström told the Bulletin this week that similar lectures and workshops have proved extremely successful all over the world, especially with business leaders, and this year will be the first that the lectures and workshops are going to be held here in Majorca.

The person behind the Mindfulness lectures and courses is no other than Eve Bengta Lorenzen who is one of the pioneers in Mindfulness and is well-known for her many research projects such as the one she is carrying out at The University of Copenhagen, hospice, with Chronic Pain patients and many more.

She is a teacher, therapist and mindfulness instructor, educated at the Centre for Mindfulness, University of Massachusetts in the USA , where she also is trained in Interpersonal Mindfulness.

Eve is going to be the key speaker but she will also be accompanied by her assistant teacher on the workshops and courses, Robert Jorgensen who is a Psychologist, Yoga teacher and Mindfulness coach.

But, what is Mindfulness Meditation?
Mindfulness is a type of meditation that essentially involves focusing your mind on the present.
To be mindful is to be aware of your thoughts and actions in the present, without judging yourself.
Research suggests that mindfulness meditation may improve mood, decrease stress, and boost immune function.
The effect of presence reflects severely in all stages of our life.
Restless fragmented thoughts are replaced with clarity, inner guidance and the ability to make the right decisions and Eve Lorenzen explains that the aim of Mindful Meditation is to:
1) To experience a deep degree of calmness in mind and body.
2) To cultivate and maintain mindfulness in daily life.
3) To develop capacity to generate effective and authentic solutions.
And, what are the results?
1) Restless thoughts are replaced with clarity, inner direction and the ability to make the right decisions.
2) Better ability to handle stressful situations.
3) Better concentration and creativity.
4) Develop better control, balance and calmness.
5) Better ability to communicate constructively.
6) Physical and mental relaxation and contentment.
Liss explained that the idea “is to be more aware of our souls and aware of what we're thinking. In today's rat race, we often end up thinking too much and allow our thoughts to literally run away with themselves and eventually us and this leads to a greater sense of worry and stress. Mindful Meditation enables us to literally slow down, reconnect with our bodies and establish inner calm which helps us fight worry and stress and keep the brain healthy.” The evening lecture is on April 8 at 7pm at City Yoga / Zunray, Calle Can Brondo, 6, Palma. Doors open at 6.30 pm.
The seminar costs just 10 euros and includes snacks and an infusion and also, those attending will be entitled to a ten percent discount on a two-day Autumn Mindfulness workshop which is going to be held on the island followed by a week-long “meditation pilgrimage” round Majorca.
