THE Balearic Government yesterday approved the decree for the creation of the International Cooperation Agency (ACIB), the aim of which will be to carry out the policies of the Balearic Ministry of Immigration and Cooperation. The agency's purpose will be to collaborate and exchange ideas with other public and private entities whose work coincides with its own.
According to the Government's spokesman, Joan Flaquer, the new agency will complement the activities of the Cooperation department with the fostering and support of actions taken by this department to develop poor countries. Among the functions of the agency will be the execution of planned objectives according to directives established by the Balearic Government.
This will be in addition to finalising agreements and contracts with legal and private people.
The agency will also be in charge of handing out grants and finance for projects.
In addition to this it will manage the finances for projects of cooperation in accordance with the Cooperation department's programme of development.
It will also be in charge of managing campaigns of support and humanitarian aid for the relief of situations of emergency.
