THE National Police have arrested a total of 35 people across the Balearics and Spain as part of a major narcotics operation which involved the massive raid on the Palma shanty-town of Son Banya on Friday. Over the past few days the drugs squad has carried out a spate of raids in Palma, Castellon and Valencia as part of an on-going nation wide operation.
Over ten kilos of cocaine, two kilos of a variety of other substances, a large amount of cash, jewellery and a luxury car have been seized. Police chiefs said that the operation has been concentrating on the activities of a family, believed to be trafficking large quantities of cocaine, based in Castellon. The investigation has led police to various parts of the country, including here in Palma. This week the order was given for the drugs squad to move in and shut the illegal operation down. As a result of the Palma raid, 22 people have been arrested and five kilos of cocaine seized.
