Palma.—The prime suspect in the investigation into the brutal murder of 53-year-old Catalina Frontera Hidalgo at a country estate near Bunyola was yesterday ordered to be held on remand in Palma prison with bail denied.

45 -year-old Andres R.G. appeared before a magistrate in Palma yesterday morning while Guardia Civil divers continued the search for the murder weapon, a Japanese sword, in the sea in the Bay of Alcudia where the suspect admitted to having thrown it on Wednesday, the day of the killing.

Catalina Frontera was a cleaner at the country estate owned by a German couple who rarely use the property.
Sacked
The suspect used to also work at the property and according to sources close to the investigation, Frontera reported his erratic behaviour to the owners and that led to Andres R.G being sacked.

Friends of the victim told the police that she apparently began receiving threats after the suspect, a gardener, was sacked from the estate leading police to suspect that revenge was the motive for Wednesday morning's murder.

Frontera's body was found by an electrician at 10am.
Her body was lying in a pool of blood in a room near the kitchen.
She had been stabbed with the sword various times and also suffered a blow to the back of the head.
According to the results of autopsy, it was the blow to the head which proved fatal. Andres R.G was arrested late on Wednesday night and apparently confessed to the crime.

This is the fourth murder of this year, making the start to 2013 the bloodiest since 1997.
Bathroom
The first murder occurred in Arta on February 1 when a woman was also stabbed.
Then on March 3, another woman was killed at her home in Palma and then on March 31, a Moroccan man stabbed his Bolivian partner in the bathroom of their home in the capital.
