Calvia.—The municipality of Calvia is the area in Spain where there was the highest growth in the number of self employed people.
A total of 261 people informed the Ministry of Employment that they were going self employed last month, a 5.8 percent increase, according to official figures.

The announcement is expected to be welcomed by the Calvia council and underlines the fact that some parts of the island are pulling clear of recession. There are now more than 5'000 people in Calvia who describe themselves as self employed.

The government said that the figures were helped by the fact that the summer season started early because of Easter.
But it was not only Calvia which was celebrating. Palma and Ibiza also saw rises in the number of people who started their own company last month.
Infact these three areas of the Balearics are in the top ten areas in Spain. The jobless rate in the islands has been falling over recent months.
