THE 23rd Majorcan Food Fair, the Mostra de Cuina opens today at its new location on the Son Rossinyol Poligono in Palma, on a site adjacent to the Son Pardo race course.

The site is 5'200 square metres and has 24 marquees, which is 10 times more area than was available for the first edition of this event.
The fair will stay open until Sunday April 22, and is organised by the Majorcan Association of Restaurateurs, with the financial support of the Balearic Government (which has given 130'000 euros to the event), the Council of Majorca and Palma council.

The opening will take place at 12 noon with a speech by the President of the Majorcan Association of Restaurateurs, Antoni Mas.
Many dignitaries will be present at this event, and the fair will be open to the public from 12.30pm until 4pm, and then from 7 until 11pm.
The Food Fair is expecting to attract more than 60'000 visitors who, as last year, will pay a four euro entrance fee, which includes bread, beer or a soft drink, sobrasada, olives, milk shake or ice cream, liqueur or aperitif, coffee and juice or fruit. The other dishes, all of which change on a daily or every two days basis, will cost 2.80 euros each.

A total of 19 restaurants from all over Majorca will be taking part in this year's fair, of which seven will be at the fair for the first time.
These will be: Asidito, Brunello, El Becerro de Sa Quartera, Es Restaurant del Museu, La Casa de la Abuela, El Restaurant del Mercat de l'Olivar, Sa Roqueta and Ses Cases Noves.

In addition to this, three of the five bakeries in the fair are here for the first time: Saldulce, The French Coffee Shop and Xoc-Art. Also present will be a total of 11 Majorcan cellars dedicated to wine and another two dedicated to liqueurs, as well as 13 brands of Majorcan products, from dairy produce to sausages and jams, and coffee.

Among the activities on offer in the Son Rossinyol site there will be exhibitions of “show cooking” by 18 specialist chefs who will do 45 minute sessions demonstrating their haute cuisine skills, while the Balearic Islands Catering School will offer two tasings of popular wines.

Among the novelties of this edition of the Mostra de Cuina is the fact that users of the “Green Card” will get a 20 per cent discount, which will rise to 50 percent on the last day, Sunday April 22.

In addition to this, there is a parking area for 1'000 vehicles, but the site can also be reached by public transport, via the EMT routes 11, 12, and 27.

The fair used to be held in the old precinct in the Polígono de Levante, and the organisers decided not to use the temporary fairs site at the old Terminal A at Son Sant Joan airport.
