Palma.—The President of the Balearic government, Jose Ramon Bauza, clashed with Francina Armengol, leader of the socialist opposition over home evictions in the Balearic parliament yesterday.

Bauza said that no-one in the Balearics had been evicted from their home since April last year. Thousands of people have lost their homes across Spain over recent years because they had been unable to pay their mortgages.

But Armengol said that government housing for those in need was poor to say the least and called on the government to take action. “You lose your home and the government can only offer you a room in a shared flat,” Armengol said in parliament yesterday.
Bauza has also said his government does not intend to use houses, which are empty, to solve the lack of public accommodation.
Armengol said that the government was ill-prepared to cope with the shortage of housing .
