By Humphrey Carter No. Not any more. Yesterday morning, leading Majorca-based British companies Revego Ltd and Fairline North Mallorca presented the world's first power boat to be fuelled by clean, eco-friendly 100 percent renewable vegetable oil at the Royal Yacht Club in the Port of Pollensa.

ENJOY your power boat and help save the world - too good to be true?

Director of Fairline North Mallorca, Russell Currie, who has provided the power boats on which the Revego Bio-fuel and conversion kit have been tested for the past few months, and the director of Revego Ltd, which has invented and owns the patents for the fuel and kits, Miguel Verhein, gave a brief presentation of the ground-breaking development in diesel engine transport to an international audience before the guests were taken out into the Bay of Pollensa to experience and see a vegetable oil-fuelled power boat in action.

One of the Fairline Phantom 46´s used in the trials was fitted with the kit and fuelled by the carbon neutral vegetable oil while another Phantom 46 was run on fossil diesel fuel.

Both were taken through their paces, until reaching full revs, and there was absolutely no difference in performance. In fact, the eco-friendly ride is smoother.

Representatives from major global banks, the marine industry, engine and fuel producers, local and central government were all extremely impressed with the vegetable fuel concept and, more importantly, that it works and the multitude of benefits it offers to the consumer and the planet.

Majorca was yesterday the launch pad for a new sustainable alternative fuel for the future.
The Mayor of Pollensa, Bartomeu Cifre, was on board the vegetable fuelled Fairline during the presentation and, once back on dry land, said that the local council and local government fully supports such initiatives, especially those carried out by the private sector. “As a council, we have embarked on our own bio-diesel campaign and welcome any and all environmental initiatives,” Cifre said. “I think what we have seen today is going to help increase people's awareness of Majorca's concern for the environemnt and green tourism and I hope we can work together. I also think that this could have a very important global impact,” the mayor added.

On Tuesday the Balearic President Jaume Matas pledged to develop an eco-friendly public transport system in the region.
Revego Ltd will soon start production of the vegetable oil fuel in Majorca where power boat owners will be able to set a green example to the rest of the nautical world this summer.
