THE man being groomed to be the next Mayor of Calvia and the leader of the centre-right Partido Popular party in the municipality, Antoni Rami, stepped down yesterday. Rami resigned blaming internal divisions within the ruling Partido Popular.

Delgado, pictured, announced yesterday that he would be continuing to lead the local branch of the party but he denied that he would be standing again for Mayor in the next local elections in two years´ time. “Party members in Calvia have asked me to continue (as leader of the PP in Calvia) and I will do so,” he said. There was a battle for the leadership for the Partido Popular in Calvia with two other people, Bartolome Bonafe and Jose Manuel Ruiz, also standing alongside Rami. On hearing the news that Rami had resigned they have both now stood down.
