By Humphrey Carter P&O'S newest superliner Azura made an unexpected call into the Port of Palma yesterday after having been unable to put into Malaga because of high winds.

The 116'000-ton liner which set sail on her inaugural cruise from Southampton on Monday, sailed into Palma early yesterday morning and after three days at sea, most of the 3'000 passengers on board were keen to come ashore and visit the capital.

The 380 million pound cruise ship was only christened last Sunday by the prima ballerina Darcey Bussell and, after its scheduled call in Malaga, was due to have then set sail for Italy as part of her 16-night Mediterranean maiden cruise.

However, strong winds forced her to head to Palma.
The Azura is said to “blend all the much-loved P&O Cruises traditions with exciting modern luxuries and innovations.” The liner has been designed to offer the ultimate in relaxation and pampering. And The Retreat - her exclusive outdoor spa terrace, will be the place to experience this at its best.

Alfresco massages and wonderful views are just two of the delights passengers can savour. Her dining experience is described by P&O “as truly exceptional”. “Behind every one of her restaurants passengers will find passion, flair and expertise.”

RONNIE CORBETT
Michelin-star chef Atul Kochhar's venue Sindhu, serves dishes blending India's homeland spices with familiar British tastes and textures.
Whilst The Glass House will be a wine connoisseurs dream – a place for sipping vintages selected by expert Olly Smith – as passengers “dine on succulent seafood and grill menus.” For entertainment there'll be dancing in the Atrium; music in Manhattan; drinks in Brodie's; and mesmerising shows, of two very different kinds, in The Planet Bar and The Playhouse. There is also a SeaScreen suspended above her Aqua Pool, delivering a rather special cinematic experience, day and night. On this maiden cruise adding to the entertainment is the comedian Ronnie Corbett. The liner also boasts a two-tier theatre, three swimming pools, an ocean-view gym and the P&O fleet's first ever single staterooms.
