STAFF REPORTER THE Spanish Hostelry Federation (FEHR) presented a new campaign yesterday in Palma aimed at linking football tourism with hotels in Spain, including around 150 in the Balearics.

FEHR Secretary General, Emilio Gallego was speaking at the National Hostelry Congress currently being held in Palma and explained that its “Spain, best place for football” project is designed to attract sporting fans to hotels which agree to cater for them. Services will be specifically linked to football, such as giant screens and special sound reproduction equipment, all made more attractive by sporting decoration and quality local food.

Gallego said that a “network of football associated hotels, bars, pubs and restaurants would be set up throughout the country.” Establishments along the Playa de Palma and in Magalluf were the most likely on Majorca to sign up to the new scheme, he claimed. “We want to attract more clients who spend more, and that they enjoy themselves better with us than anywhere else,” he added.

A wide marketing campaign is being launched to advertise football tourism in Spain, including the use of internet site “Facebook.”
