TOMORROW, the Red Cross will begin selecting the 75 life guards which will patrol Majorca's beaches this summer.
The first round of physical examinations will take place along the Playa de Palma tomorrow from 10am onwards, the Red Cross said in a press statement.
The second phase of the selection process will take place on April 16 and will involve a theory examination on first aid and maritime rescue techniques as well as test of cardiovascular reanimation.

This first selection process is aimed at filling the vacancies in the Red Cross force for the month of May after which a second selection process will take place in order to have the necessary life guards trained and ready for the peak periods between June and September.

They will be instructed in first aid, risk prevention, environmental management systems, basic psychology, how to work with the disabled, how to handle the media.

Those in charge of the Red Cross rapid response ribs and jet skis will also receive extra training as will the beach patrol chiefs.
