STAFF REPORTER MINORCA has been voted fifth in a survey carried out on passenger satisfaction and quality of service at 70 international airports by Thomson Airways, company sources confirmed yesterday.

The research, consisting of a series of as many as fifty questions, was carried out during last year's season amongst Thomson Airways passengers returning to the United Kingdom after their holidays.

The nature of the questionnaire included such details as what sort of reception did travellers get when they reached the front of the queue to check their bags in, and how were passengers treated in general by airport services and handling staff.

The Thomson Airways survey comes in the wake of one which has already been carried out by Thomas Cook and another by the Spanish National Airports Authority (AENA) in which Minorca scored 4.01 on a scale of 5.

According to a Thomson Airways spokesman yesterday, passengers particularly valued the speed and efficiency with which both baggage check-in and security checks were carried out at Minorca airport. They also appreciated the ease with which they were ferried between aircraft and the terminal buildings and how quiet and well kept the installations were.

Tomas Melgar, the Senior Director at Minorca Airport, said that on receiving the results of the company surveys, he had made a point of congratulating his staff. He said that he had urged them to continue in their good work because a “comfortable” airport experience is becoming increasingly hard to find in 21st century travel. As a result passengers are likely to consider airport quality when deciding where to go on holiday, Melgar said.
