Palma.—The Amarres Deportivos company yesterday secured a licence to knock down the building located on the Moll Vell in Palma from the City Council. Work will begin in two weeks time and is expected to take 18 months to complete. The Council confirmed yesterday that the cost of demolishing the two-storey 1'457 square metre Lubina building will cost 93'000 euros.

The work on the new complex will begin in a couple of months backed by an investment of 8'000 euros. The investors, winners of a Ports Authority bid which went out to public tender in 2010 are both Majorcan and from the mainland.

They have been granted 15 years to manage the businesses which are to be set up there.
La Lubina restaurant will be rebuilt over an area of 490 square metres although it could undergo a name change. The remainder of space on the Moll Vell will be rented out to bars, restaurants, shops and even offices. There will also be a port side viewing point where events can be staged.

The leisure complex envisages providing 24 moorings which can be individually and privately rented; 22 of the moorings will be for 25 metre long boats and two for 40 metre vessels.

The Amarres Deportivos company will be responsible for building the street on the Moll Vell and for landscaping the area. The builders will also bear the cost of the electricity transformer.

The company is to spend 4 million euros on a floating mooring development “Pantalán del Mediterrano” to enlarge space for 60 and 70 metre long boats.
Palma City Council claims that the Moll Vell project will create 40 permanent jobs as a direct result of the leisure complex construction and 150 indirectly.
