Calvia.—The Calvia council has re-introduced neighbourhood policing in an effort to reduce crime and bring the people of Calvia together with their police force.

The new police patrols will be operating in the following areas; Bendinat, Portals Nous and Costa den Blanes, Son Caliu and Palmanova, Son Ferrer and El Toro, Paguera, Cala Fornells , Calvia and Capdella.

The Mayor of Calvia, Manuel Onieva, unveiled the new “neighbourhood watch” yesterday. It will function during weekdays and the Mayor said that he wanted to increase the visible presence of the police across Calvia.

Onieva said that they would like to increase the number of neighbourhoods which form part of the scheme but a lack of police manpower meant that initially it would only take place in certain areas.
