WHILE William and Kate head off to the Lake District for their honeymoon tomorrow, British tour operators are hoping that the excitement generated by the momentous occasion will generate a boost in summer holiday sales.

Sales of holidays to the Balearics in the United Kingdom are already up by over 13 percent in comparison to last year but according to travel industry sources, agents are hoping that the wedding will fuel a further surge in late bookings with some high street chains using street parties and celebrations to lure clients into their shops.

The timing of the wedding is perfect for the travel industry as it marks the end of Easter and tour operators hope that Britons that have not already booked their summer holidays, will start thinking about it this weekend.

There has already been a recent upward movement in the market over the past few weeks and the travel agents and tour operators hope that the trend gathers further momentum over the weekend.

OPEN TODAY

Many of the country's main high street travel agents are going to open today and will remain so over the weekend to catch those who opted to remain in the United Kingdom to watch the wedding and enjoy the celebrations and those who have yet to book. Market research shows that Spain and the Balearics continue to be the top destinations in the United Kingdom but competitors like Tunisia and Egypt are mounting a hard fight back in an attempt to recuperate their lost holiday makers.
