The Balearics president, José Ramón Bauzá, has underlined the enormous potential that the Russian and Ukrainian tourism markets have for combating the problems of seasonality and has reiterated forecasts from the islands' tourism ministry which suggest that Russian tourism to the Balearics could grow by 35% in 2013.

Speaking at a gathering of representatives from the tour operators Coral Travel and Sunmar, both part of the Odeon Tours Group, in Palmanyola, the president stressed the important role that tour operators have in promoting the islands as a holiday destination to the Russian and Ukrainian markets.

During the event, attended by Juan Sánchez, director-general in Spain of Grupo MTS-OTS, and Yurtsever Göycek, director-general of Odeon, President Bauzá pointed out that Coral Travel and Sunmar anticipate bringing 14'000 tourists to the Balearics, a figure gleaned by the government when the president attended the MITT travel fair in Moscow in March.
