THE strong winds yesterday forced a ship belonging to Iscomar, sailing from Alcudia to Ciutadella, to seek shelter in the port of Mahon.
The Iscomar ship, the Nura Nova, sailed from the Port of Alcudia at 8.30am bound for Ciutadella.
However, she had to be diverted to the port of Mahon due to the strong winds battering the channel of Minorca, according to the Balearic Port Authority. The Port Authority also said that the Nura Nova had to cancel her return to the port of Alcudia, scheduled for 2.30pm.
The Port Authority added that the rest of the Balearic ports were operating normally yesterday.
Sea conditions are expected to remain rather unsettled over the next few days although shipping companies are confident that sailings will return to normal today.
