PALMA
THE world's first 100 percent vegetable oil-fuelled power boat will set sail in the Bay of Pollensa this morning.
The world first event marks the end of years of work by British company Revego Ltd, which owns the patent to the Revego 100% carbon dioxide-neutral vegetable oil fuel and the advanced fuel system it has developed for diesel engines. For months Revego has been testing its conversion kit on powerboats provided by Fairline North Mallorca. At this morning's presentation two Fairline Phantom 46 powerboats will set sail, one fuelled by 100 percent eco-friendly, zero greenhouse gases vegetable oil and the other on conventional fossil diesel.

The “revolutionary” breakthrough has caught the attention of the world's leading fuel and power companies, banks, business people, diesel transport companies, the marine industry and politicians.

On Monday, technicians from the Ministry for Environment spent all morning in Pollensa where they were given a personal presentation, a report of which was to be presented at an international bio-fuel convention currently taking place in Madrid.

Today, representatives from the ministries for transport, environment, commerce and energy, as well as central government, will be attending the presentation.

Not only can the power boating industry now take an active part in the global battle to reduce CO2 emissions and cut consumption of fossil fuels, the Revego conversion kits can be fitted, with ease, to any diesel engine.

The benefits, for example, for haulage companies switching to vegetable oil, are numerous.
They will be helping to protect the environment while also enjoying the benefits of tax reductions and exemptions for using alternative and sustainable fuels. What is more, vegetable fuel production is a localised process and Revego is currently setting up a fuel “press” on the C'an Valero industrial estate in Palma.
