A short circuit is thought to have been the cause of a fire which destroyed the popular Los Leones restaurant in Porto Petra yesterday.
The blaze in the front line establishment was reported just before 1pm and, according to sources close to the investigation, fire investigators suspect it was a short circuit because workers have been preparing and refitting the restaurant for Easter over the past few days.

The fire spread quickly and created a huge column of smoke which could be seen all across the port.

At first, there were fears that some of the workers were inside the building, but fortunately, all of the staff had enough time to exit the building before the restaurant was engulfed in flames.

Such was the intensity of the blaze that fire fighters from Felanitx, Llucmajor and Manacor were needed while the Guardia Civil cordoned off the area and closed the main access road into the port for over an hour while fire fighters tackled the blaze.
