Pollensa.—The Mayor of Pollensa has slammed opposition politicians accusing them of incompetence in failing to complete the construction of a local walking trail.

The project was originally approved in 2007 and was designed to create a passage over the Son March river stream to facilitate the access to the old path between Pollensa and Lluc.

The internationally acclaimed route was created to promote the environment, the mountain and encourage trailing enthusiasts but is currently a hazard for pedestrians who must cross the road four times and walk in the same direction as traffic to reach it.

Bartomeu Cifre (Partido Popular) has accused the politicians responsible, Catalina Soler and Biel Company, of “incapable of delivering a solution to the problem”.

The plan, which was put up for public scrutiny six years ago and had a budget of 96.972'87 euros, never went ahead and is currently on hold until the council provides the government with the land necessary to change the route and rearrange some problems detected in the early stages.

If the change is approved the route will stop passing through the old road to Lluc, which comprises Ca na Borrassa and Ca Pontico (property of the Mayor's family).

Cifre also mentioned that the previous administration “failed to do better because they were misinformed by their own team” and asked for an urgent solution for the problem.

He continued the attack by saying it is that Plataforma Pro Camins Publica i Oberts (a pro hiking movement) does not claim the construction of the passage to complete the route and honour their political pledges.
