PALMA
MAJORCAN-BASED British nautical engineer Mark Jeffery is still missing after he and his crew mate were apparently knocked over board by a freak wave on April 11 while sailing from Leucate in France to L'Estarit, Girona on the mainland.

The body of the owner of White Angel, Daniel Rener, was found floating in sea near the coast of Girona two days later but there has still been no sign of 35-year-old Jeffery who was an extremely popular and well known marine electrician here in Majorca where he lived with his family. The motor yacht was found 40 miles off the coast of Mahon on April 13 and it has been the authorities in Minorca which have been investigating the incident.

According to a report released by the Guardia Civil in Mahon, the cause of the accident was a freak wave which struck the yacht. Investigators claim that the wave hit the front of the vessel with such force it smashed the windscreens and snapped the aerial. The forensic report states that the 60-year-old Belgian owner of the boat drowned and that he suffered head injuries as a result of the accident which may have knocked him out. The Girona air sea rescue services continued their search for Jeffery last week but they have yet to report any success.
