PALMA
THE latest in a series of rolling strikes by Balearic doctors took place yesterday.
According to the Balearic health service, only 22.6 percent of the 2'981 doctors in the islands' hospitals participated, a drop of over 31 percent on the first strike that took place on March 3.

Ib-Salut sources said that of the 2'203 doctors rostered to work, 498 took part in the strike, 129 less than the first strike.
The health service's management says the strike is affecting over a million medical card holders.
The doctors' union, Sindicato Médico Libre, say management has not responded to any of its pay demands after almost a month of the negotiations.
However, there may be light at the end of the tunnel.
Last night the union proposed a reduction in the amount of overtime pay per hour from 30 euros to 22 euros on normal working days and 24 euros on holidays.

The Director General of the health service, Josep Pomar, said that these savings could be directed towards improving the health service and that Ib-Salut “was disposed to accept” the offer.

However, Ib-Salut is continuing to refuse while strike action is ongoing.
