PALMA
THE Centro Canino animal refuge which was forced to close its doors by Palma City Council is this morning holding a protest against the local authority's decision at Palma airport.

Vice-president Julie Ford explained yesterday that an animal shelter with which the Centro Canino has close links in Holland has offered to house five of the animals evicted from the refuge here in Majorca.

The five dogs are going to be flying to Holland this morning so the Centro Canino has decided to stage a protest to coincide with the departure of the pets.

Ford explained that they hope as many supporters of the Centro Canino take part as possible.
The protest will first kick off at the Centro Canino at 9am and then move to the airport where Ford said she hopes to start the main demonstration against Palma City Council's treatment of the shelter and the animals at 9.30am in or outside departures. The animal shelter has lodged an appeal against the council's latest ruling but has no idea how long the process is going to take and in the meantime has had to rehouse its animals.
