TOP LIB DEM BACKER HELD FOR FRAUD

By Bulletin/Ultima Hora Staff Reporters A Majorca-based British tycoon was in police custody last night on fraud charges. Michael Brown, who had a palacial office in Palma and luxury homes in Andratx and Esporlas, made headline news last year when he donated 2.5 million pounds to the Liberal Democrats to help their election campaign in Britain. Brown told the Bulletin at the time that he was a major supporter of former Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy. His arrest was carried out by Spanish detectives but there were rumours last night that Scotland Yard and even the U.S. Secret Service may have been involved. This morning Brown will be taken to Madrid for extradition to Britain where he is due to face major fraud charges.
