THE newly-elected president of the Balearic Federation of Transport companies, Miquel Florit, wants to promote integrated service centres for transport near Palma airport and the Port of Palma.

The objective of this would be to make it easier to transport passengers and freight from the ports to wherever they need to go on the island.
Florit, who succeeds his father who held the presidency for 12 years, said that the results of last year were “positive”.
However, he did say that the “satisfactory” results were spoiled by the rise in the price of fuel.
Another of the problems which he highlighted was the shortage of drivers in various subsectors.
The Annual General Meeting of the Balearic Federation of Transport Companies approved the executive's decision to expel the Vehicle Rental Companies group (Aevab), for not paying their membership fees.

The Taxi Drivers Association abstained from this vote.
It was agreed to set up a commission to formalise their departure.
Aevab stopped attending meetings and paying their membership fees when the Federation allowed the rival Baleval Association of Car Rental Companies to join them.

Aevab has accused the companies belonging to this Association of unfair competition.
The Balearic Federation of Transport Companies represents 16 associations and nearly 3'000 companies.
