PALMA
THE creation of another rail track between Inca and Enllac will result in a better train service from next year.
It is feared that the current “bottleneck” that exists between Inca and Enllac will prevent greater frequency of trains between Palma and Alcudia and Arta once the new link to the north of the island has been built.

The 12.3 million-euro project involves laying 4.7km of track. Work is due to begin within the next two months. The Balearic Minister for Transport, Gabriel Vicens, said that none of the six existing crossings along this stretch of the railway would be permanently affected by the works. “We're not going to throw away any bridges,” said Vicens at the presentation of the project, referring to the dismantling of a bridge in Palma during the last legislature. “It's envisaged that we will duplicate crossings so that we can lay the second line, but the project will give priority to the protection of the environment, the ground and the vegetation,” said Vicens.

The idea is to build new crossings from concrete to protect the existing bridges and crossings.
Vicens said that the works would not result in disruption to the existing rail service. “We will do everything in our power to ensure that the service will not have to be interrupted,” he said.
