PALMA
FIGURES released by the Ministry for Tourism and Commerce in Madrid yesterday reveal that the down turn in tourism to the Balearics and Spain appears to have finally ended.

The number of tourists which visited the Balearics during March was 1.7 percent up on the previous month, the first increase in 14 months.
Nationally, the number of foreign visitors rose by 3.2 percent, the best data for 22 months according to the Ministry's statistics department.
However, package holiday sales to Spain and the Balearics in the UK continue to be down on last year and while the UK accounted for 22 percent of foreign visitors during March, it was the only market to have continued shrinking. Growth markets were France and Scandinavia.
