THE eighth Robert Winsor charity golf tournament is due to get underway with a swing at the Real Golf de Bendinat course this morning, with a host of personalities doing their part to raise funds for disadvantaged and disabled children of Majorca. Last year, the tournament raised more than 156'000 euros, which went to purchase much needed equipment and pay hospital bills.
The objective this year is to top this amount.
Among those taking part are Jasper Carrott OBE, Brian Close CBE, Mike England, Joe Goodman, Karl Howman, Ron Atkinson, Jess Conrad, John Miles, Lance Percival and Norman Hunter, as well as Victor Garcia, father and trainer of Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia. The event got underway with a gala dinner at the Club House at the course last night.
The golfing starts this morning, the players divided into teams of four, each of which has the presence of at least one of the personalities who answereed the call by Robert Winsor MBE. After tomorrow's play, there will be a gala dinner at the Santa Ponsa Country Club and SPA, where there will also be an auction, and a draw for many prizes, all of which helps swell the funds raised.
