PALMA City Council is taking steps against a swarm of mosquitoes which is plaguing the Playa de Palma and Sant Jordi, most likely prompted by persistent spring rain.
The Council's Health department has been spraying a natural spore across the wetlands of the plain of Sant Jordi which kills mosquito larvae. The system of elimination was recommended by experts from the Balearic University as a method which didn't damage other elements of the environment.
The spraying will continue for some days and will result in a drastic reduction in the number of mosquitoes.
The public can report swarms of mosquitoes to the City Council by using the free 010 telephone number.
