THE Palma city council has no plans to halt work on the underground car park in the Avda Antonio Maura for the summer, councillor Alvaro Gijon said yesterday. Work is not due to be finished until November 2006, he added. Gijon said that interrupting work - currently one of the biggest eyesores in Palma, next to the Huerto del Rei gardens and the Almudaina -- would only inconvenience residents and traders who have been forced to close while work is in progress. He admitted that stopping the work in summer would mean less noise to disturb tourists. But when it is an operation of this magnitude, stretching over two tourist seasons, it would be illogical to delay work any further, he explained. Once completed, the car park will have nearly 900 places.
Car park work will continue all summer despite inconvenience
