SPANISH Television, TVE2, is currently showing a series of documentaries dedicated to the Balearics, Baleares, un Viaje en el Tiempo (A Trip Through Time), and tonight's episode at 9.10pm is dedicated to Errol Flynn and the Glamour of the 1950s. The tourist boom of the mid-1950s opened a mainly rural society to visitors from all over the world, many of them bringing with them the glamour of Hollywood. Visitors in those days included Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier of Monaco, Charles Chaplin, Ava Gardner, Douglas Fairbanks Jr, George Sanders and Errol Flynn. Flynn, accompanied by his wife Patricia Wymore, moored his yacht, the Zaca, at the Palma Club Nautico and they rented a house, Es Moli, in Illetas.
The documentary, written by Eduard Jordà and Carles Romaguera, attempts to recapture some of the glamour of those days, through old images, such as the filming of Jack el Negro, the visit by Rainier and Grace Kelly, Errol Flynn, and interviews with photographer Josep Planas Muntanyá, journalist Pere A Serra, the president of Grup Serra, sailors such as Ventura Sala or Toni s'Indio who worked for Flynn and the owner of the Hotel Bon Sol, where Flynn first stayed when he arrived in Majorca. The series has been made by Toni Capella and Jaume Vidal.
Other chapters include one on the British spy Thomas Harris, and one on the Spanish royal family, who spend their holidays here.
