Inca.— After the introduction of the total smoking ban at the beginning of the year, Inca council is now considering allocating a maximum of two parking spaces to bars and cafés without a terrace so that they can set up lowlevel platforms outside on which to mount tables and chairs.

The move, said Mayor's Deputy Felipe Jerez yesterday, comes in response to requests from local businesses for the creation of open air spaces. But he recognised that it was going to be no easy task as any decree permitting the spaces made by the council would have to be balanced with the rights of local residents.

Jerez made it clear however, that it would be the owners of bars and cafeterias who would have to bear the cost of the setting up of outside facilites. The council is now studying what type of platform would be best suited for this use.
