TWO tourists died and one was injured in falls from hotel balconies in three different resorts yesterday, while a third tourist drowned in a swimming accident. Issa Lauren N'Diaye, aged 23, of French nationality, fell from a seventh floor balcony in the Hotel Santa Ana, in Cala Mayor, at about 9.30am yesterday. He had arrived on the island with two friends just four days ago, police reports said.
Paramadics rushed to the scene and tried for more than half an hour to revive him, but nothing could be done.
His friends are receiving counselling from a psychologist, according to police reports.
They said that the deceased had lead a normal life but had been under psychiatric treatment recently.
A routine investigation has been opened.
In Arenal, a 25-year-old German tourist died after falling from a balcony in the Hotel Cactus in the early hours of the morning.
He was reported dead before the ambulance arrived.
The Guardia Civil are also investigating the case, and initial reports indicate that the tourist may have fallen when trying to climb from one balcony to the next. The Guardia Civil reported a third balcony fall in Palmanova, which resulted in injuries.
A British tourist named only as L D, fell from a balcony in the Vista Nova apartments at around 4.30am.
He suffered injuries to an arm and a leg in the accident, and is now recovering in hospital.
It is not known how he came to fall.
In Porto Colom, a German tourist aged about 60, whose name has not been released, drowned while swimming at the Arenal de Portocolom beach in Felanitx. He was pulled from the water unconscious at around 9am, but although an ambulance and the doctor from Portocolom rushed to the scene, they were unable to revive him. A post mortem will be held to determine the cause of death.
