This coming weekend, Majorca's 5th Record Fair will be held at the city's exhibition area in the Poligono de Llevant.
Some 120 contributors are expected with a special appearance by the veteran British punk band, “The Damned”.
The Fair, which is sponsored by Palma City Council, the Council of Majorca and the Balearic government, was presented yesterday by its organisers, Joan Carles Mireia and Pere Terrassa, who affirmed that the event “has become established as one of the best trade fairs in Europe”. The most noticeable alteration in this year's edition is the change of dates as prior to this year it has been held in the month of April. The schedule has had to be modified, however, due to programming demands on Balearic Fairs and Congresses, the company spearheading events at Palma's Exhibition area. The Record Fair has been allocated a budget of 200'000 euros, an amount somewhat lower than last year. Nevertheless, the organisers are confident this will not reflect at all in the quality of the event, since savings have been made in aspects which won't affect visitors, confirmed Joan Carles Mireia. The Record Fair will have a varied programme of activities, which includes live performances by 16 bands split between the two stages in the exhibition area. “The Damned” feature amongst the international groups and will go into action on Sunday 12 September at 7pm.
Two other non Spanish groups to perform are “The Punkles” and “Frontkick”, whilst the Majorcan music scene will be represented by “No Children” and “Los Talegueros”. The 120 exhibitors at the event come from the mainland of Spain, Canada, Scotland, Germany, France and Holland, and will be selling records, comics, musical instruments and books. The Fair is open on Saturday from 3-10.30pm, and Sunday 11am-9pm. Entrance fee is 6 euros (including CD), 5 euros without.
